Lost season 5 is expected to be the best yet, this time revealing what happens when the Losties attempt to get back to the Island, and reveal what really happened when they left!

Season 5 of Lost, one of television’s most maddening but addictive and creative serialized dramas, starts tonight with a one-hour retrospective “clip show” covering the first four seasons (judiciously, one would assume) then the two-hour premiere of the new season. Let’s just say this much for starters — Season 5 is crazy complicated.

And yet, if you’re an ambitious and eager person at heart, you could watch the one-hour clip show for helpful clues, and perhaps comb the Internet, starting with the Lost page on Wikipedia and then perhaps Googling “Lostpedia.” It might be a more efficient use of your time to study quantum physics in your off hours, however.

That should not be construed as anything remotely negative toward Lost, one of the few challenging series on mainstream television that doesn’t spoon-feed the American public a trite, easily predicted ending. The ambition and creativity — and yes, the confusion along those roads — are what fuel the basic greatness of Lost. It’s just that this is a particularly bad time to jump on the bandwagon as it’s rolling along. Renting or buying the DVDs and starting from the beginning? Yes, by all means. Tuning in tonight expecting to know what’s happening is like stumbling into a Latin class when all you’re really capable of doing is texting on your phone.

One of the myriad intriguing things about Lost in Season 5 is that it treats the flashbacks and newer flash-forwards as, well, flashcards. That is to say child’s play in the realm of following along with competency. Almost from the time the first frame comes into focus and the final credits roll two hours later, Lost enters a shifting realm of space and time, the after-effect of Ben (Michael Emerson) turning that super-cool wagon-wheel thingy and making the island disappear at the end of Season 4. Now, for those people still on the island, space and time are in your face and out of your mind. Just go with it. There’s joy on this ride.

Translation: This series just took a roller-coaster hairpin of a turn. If the latter stages of Season 3 and all of Season 4 marked a course-correction to the confusion that preceded it, the writers have apparently tired of making you feel comfortable in your grasp of what’s happening. When Jack (Matthew Fox) says, wearily, “How did we get here? How did all of this happen?,” you half expect the Talking Heads to be playing Once In A Lifetime in the background. Time has been “dislodged” in Season 5, and the operative words are not “where are we” but “when are we.” Seriously. They say that.

The essential storylines created by the end of Season 4 remain in place — the six people who got off the island want (and need) to go back. When we last saw Ben and Jack, they were looking at Locke (Terry O’Quinn), very much dead in a casket in Los Angeles. Locke is alive on the island, however. And Ben is trying to put the world, or at least the island, to right.

If this sounds like insanity, then you haven’t been watching. If this sounds like it makes sense, then congratulations on being caught up with the narrative storyline, but it’s all about to go — what’s the word? — insane. Season 5 starts three years from the end of Season 4. Although it seems like every tiny, precious little hint is some kind of spoiler to Lost fans, there’s no joy in giving away many of the ingenious twists you’re about to witness in the show, but setting up the structure is essential.

A lot can happen in three years. But as only Lost can, the series makes that point seem moot early on. There’s so much time-shifting and characters from the past meeting characters from the present that time itself becomes Dali-esque unless you’ve got a lot of Advil.

Having seen the first three episodes, the most impressive achievement is not the various machinations of new and old characters or the mind-bending use of time. It’s the parallel plotting, which is relatively easy to understand amid the motivational mental chaos.

On the one hand, you’ve got people off the island who are trying to get back on it, though someone is either trying to stop them or beat them there. On the other, you’ve got the people on the island (who we are familiar with) experiencing time-space flux and meeting a lot of the island’s original occupants (many we’ve never seen before). When these two plots ultimately meet — which might not even be this season — it’s going to be a sublime migraine.

There’s merit in discussing the notion of what’s confusing to outsiders and fans.

In Season 5, both the producers of Lost and the network itself would be lying if they told you they expected to get new fans. Stranger things have happened (see: Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl).

But the remaining episodes of Lost are like the (lesser number of) remaining episodes of Battlestar Galactica in that they are a reward for die-hard fans. These are the engrossing, final chapters of complicated mysteries.

They offer only confusion to new fans who try to pick up the narrative thread. And yet, complicated plot twists being the mind candy of serialized dramas, they offer glorious conundrums and heretofore unheard-of turns to the loyal viewer.

These Rubik’s cube dramas are easy to smirk at if you’re out of the loop or prefer closed-ended series where all is well in the 59th minute of every episode — and you don’t need Internet annotations to follow along.

Lost is a different genre, one that may infuriate even the loyalists, but there’s something impressive and rewarding in the density.

Who will return?

When the insanely thrilling Lost finale aired in May, I was surprised that there weren’t an abundance of major deaths on the island. Keamy got what was coming to him, Michael sacrificed himself, and Locke ended up in the coffin, but everyone else who wasn’t a red shirt still had a shot at survival. I’m definitely not complaining about the lack of casualties, but it was unexpected considering the myriad of dangers on the island.

However, not every character who made it through the finale will be returning for season 5 of the series. Though new Lost episodes are still many months away, Kristin at E! Online already has some spoilers regarding who will and won’t be returning next year. Read on if you want to know more about the fates of two of Lost’s most important characters.

SPOILER WARNING!!! GO NO FURTHER IF YOU HATE SPOILERS!!!

I’ll start with the good news. According to Kristin, Daniel Dae Kim will definitely be back for season 5. She doesn’t have any details about how Jin survived the big freighter explosion, but I think we all had a sneaking suspicion that he moved out of harm’s way. My guess is that he’ll be picked up by Daniel (Jeremy Davies) in the raft, but it’s impossible to know where they’ll be located. Did Daniel, Jin and the red shirts disappear with the island, or will they be stuck floating in the ocean until Charles Widmore sends another boat?

While fans can rejoice knowing that they’ll see Jin again in the near future, the same can’t be said for Claire. Kristin also revealed that Emilie de Ravin will be on a holding contract with Lost for season five and not returning until season six. I guess we shouldn’t expect the mystery of Claire’s disappearance to be solved anytime soon. If de Ravin won’t be appearing in the fifth season, does this mean that no one will be taking a trip to Jacob’s cabin in the near future? Or will we simply not be seeing as much of life on the island as we used to? We’ll have to wait and see.

The news of Jin’s return makes me even more excited to see Lost’s fifth season, but I’m slightly worried that the mystery surrounding Claire is going to be dragged out for too long. Do we really need to wait until season 6 to discover if she’s dead or alive? If there’s one thing I’ve learned after four seasons of Lost, it’s that sometimes it pays to be patient.

Season 7, also known as Day 7, of the television series 24 was originally planned to premiere on January 13, 2008 but was delayed for a year due to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike.[3] Fox aired a two-hour “prequel” TV movie titled 24: Redemption‎ on November 23, 2008 that bridges the gap between seasons.[4] Season 7 begins in the US on Fox with a two-night, four-hour premiere over two consecutive nights, following the format of the previous three seasons. The first two hours aired on Sunday, January 11, 2009, and the third and fourth hours aired on Monday, January 12, 2009. Thereafter, Fox will air the remainder of the season on subsequent Mondays without interruption.[1][2] Sky1 will broadcast a two-hour premiere special on Monday 12 January, another two hours the following Monday, and a single episode on every subsequent Monday, meaning that the UK will be a week behind the US, due to it being broadcast on the same night in both countries.

The season’s storyline begins and ends at 8:00 a.m.

According to a TV Guide interview with co-executive producer Manny Coto, “In a sense, it’s a reboot — in location and personnel. We’re going to be introducing a new stable of characters, along with a couple of old ones. Jack starts next season in a very different place than any season so far. [He's] not living under an alias. He’s found a place he thinks he belongs and a job he enjoys doing that doesn’t involve the government… We’re hewing much closer to real life: tighter, more personal, more difficult for Jack. There will not be a ticking clock on a nuclear device [and] the villain is not a terrorist [but] someone with a supremely dark past who’s done something horrific and whose ambition is to regain his stature in the world. There may even be a plot thread that doesn’t take place on U.S. soil.”[5]

Writer and Executive Producer Michael Loceff has confirmed, “what we are going for, is really taking this to the personal level”, unlike season 6′s focus on nuclear threats, Presidential health and possible war. Loceff says “you just can’t go much bigger than that, unless you put a spacesuit on Jack Bauer and shoot him into orbit. Which you know, we may get there, but we’re not going to be there yet.” The show’s producers are hinting smaller story lines for the characters, including Jack. Loceff adds, “and how he tries to resolve a particularly thorny conflict in the final episode.” Loceff tells us season 7 will focus on smaller and more intense story lines. But the specifics are still a mystery even for Loceff and the writers.[6]

Carlos Bernard will return as Tony Almeida in the premiere of season 7 as one of the main antagonists, using his knowledge in order to help the terrorists get around government interference. Show-runner Howard Gordon explained that Tony’s “uncertain fate” left the door open for his return[7] and cited the lack of a “silent clock” as a deliberate move to keep his death ambiguous.[8] “We didn’t give him the silent clock because we always wanted to keep alive the possibility for some kind of (admittedly) miraculous resurrection… which we will explain,” and followed up with “He’s definitely not the Almeida we once knew.”[8].

In the special features of the 24: Redemption DVD release, Fox released the first 17 minutes of the season premiere.

Very rapidly after the rumor came out a rep put out the rumor when they officially stated that Hudson won’t perform at the inauguration.“There is no truth to this,” a representative simply told Access Hollywood, maintaining that Hudson’s return performance will be at an event in Los Angeles in February, paying tribute to musician Neil Diamond.

Even still, we can deduce that Jennifer will hopefully have a comeback this year after coming out of American Idol strong.Setting aside any debate on whether the media should have been more sensitive to making this announcement in light of the murders, or whether Hudson is ready to come back, a comeback seems inevitable.Here’s to resiliency, then. This season of the show starts on January 13th and features the addition of a new judge Kara DioGuardi.

4. New Technologies: As technology evolves, new technologies may open up possibilities that were never heard of before. Imagine watching a movie in 3D, you’re sitting on your couch but watching a show as if you are part of the audience when the TV show was recorded. You’re not really having a TV at home anymore, but a 3D entertainment room.
