Using Barbecue Smokers For Added Flavor and Tenderness

Filed under: Cooking — tkwriter @ 7:36 am

Barbecue smokers add a delectable smokey flavor that at the same time makes food moist and tender every time. The slow cooking process of using barbecue smokers is perfect for fish, meat, vegetable or sausages. However most barbecue smokers are intended for small barbecues only.

1. Basics Of Barbecue Smokers

The construction of a barbecue smoker is basically the same as a standard barbecue grill. However with a barbecue smoker the closeable lid is designed to trap in smoke to cook the food. Barbecue smokers are either direct or in direct. The direct barbecue smoker is basically a unit with a closeable lid and aromatic wood chips are combined with the charcoal. The smoke produced by the chips and charcoal cooks the food placed with in the smoker. This gives the unique flavor to the food. In direct barbecue smokers is similar to the direct barbecue smoker with a single unit and closable lid, this is the grill unit. However the in direct barbecue smoker has another container, the smoker unit, that holds the woodchips and charcoal. The smoke passes into the grill unit and gives flavor to the barbecue.

Barbecue smokers may either be electric or gas and may use real wood or charcoal for smoking. Both types of barbecue smokers can be used for private and commercial settings. At the same time there are table top barbecue smokers that are transportable. Depending on the skill level of the user there are several types of barbecue smokers to choose from. For more information please visit Gas bbq grills

2. Water Barbecue Smokers for Beginners

- Ideal for beginners
- Vertical type barbecue smoker
- Has a bowl of water located between the base and cooking racks
- Generates moisture throughout the cooking process
- Relatively inexpensive
- Great way to get started in barbecue smoking
- Very hard to regulate heat

3. Electric Barbecue Smokers

Next to the water barbecue smokers are the electric type smokers. These models are more expensive compared to the water smokers thereby producing better-smoked food. One of the perks of using an electric smoker is that there is no need to light a fire.

However many traditionalist smokers would dislike this feature of the electric smoker. The electric barbecue smoker make for hassle-free cooking, allowing the cook to spend more time with the guests rather than tend the fire. It also involves less care and upkeep compared to traditional barbecue smokers. For more information please visit Lynx bbq grills

4. The Charcoal or Log Barbecue Smoker

The charcoal or log burning barbecue smokers is the next step to the electric barbecue smokers. This type of barbecue smokers is reserved for the truly skilled smoker that appreciates the fine taste of quality-smoked food. The taste of food smoked in charcoal or log burning barbecue smokers is truly savored with every bite. Charcoal or log burning barbecue smokers are larger in size and heavier compared to water or electric barbecue smokers. These type of smokers are outfitted with handle-bars and wheels making transport reasonably easy. At the same time charcoal or log burning barbecue smokers have controls for thermal regulation and smoke generation providing more choices for cooking.

5. Maitenance Tips

Maintaining a barbecue smoker doesn’t require a great deal of effort. For most brands of barbecue smokers sold in the market today, it is essential to fire up the unit and let it burn on the highest heat for about one hour. This process known as the burning-in method will kill any possible contamination that is already present in the unit even before it is used for cooking. The initial smoking process will in effect provide a protective covering for the barbecue smoker.

6. Safety Tips

When using a barbecue smoker be sure that there is sufficient ventilation in the area where the unit is located. This will prevent the fumes from choking family and friends. It will also limit the chances of a build-up of dangerous toxins brought about by excessive smoke. For more information please visit Lynx gas grills

Bbq – Making the Most From Your Outdoor Experiences

Filed under: Cooking — tkwriter @ 8:52 pm

Having Barbeque at outdoor parties especially during summer is a great idea because they are very easy to prepare and you can cook them at the party itself. There are modern equipments used for grilling barbeques, however, nothing beats barbeques cooked over hot, burning charcoals. There is that smoky and outdoorsy taste that you cannot achieve if you cook your barbeque using electronic cooking equipment. If you are planning to have a barbeque party using charcoals, then here are some tips and hints that you should remember.

• Buy enough amount of charcoal that will last you until the end of your party or until all of your Charcoal Barbeque have been cooked and eaten. Place the charcoal at the center of your barbeque and light the charcoal using a couple of firelighters which you can buy from hardware shops and DIY and crafts stores. The charcoal should be placed in such a way that it resembles a small mound so that it will burn easily.
• Let the charcoal burn. It will be ready to use for your barbeque after about half an hour, when the fire has gone out and the charcoal’s color becomes ashy grey or when there are only hot embers left.
• The hot charcoals should be spread out evenly on the barbeque so that your barbeque will be cooked well.
• On the top of the barbeque with hot coals, place a grill where you can put your barbeques for cooking. Make sure that the barbeque grill is evenly placed.
• You can grill all kinds of food—from meat to vegetables and fruits. However, make sure that you grease your grill before you put any food on it to prevent food from sticking to the grill. Or you can cover your food with oil using a small brush.
• Your barbeque should have a cover to prevent any dust or dirt from coming in contact with your food. The covers or lids usually have openings for air to get in and smoke and heat to come out. Always leave this open.
• Just follow the instructions for cooking Broil King If you do not have any idea when it is ready to cook the barbeque, touch the top of the grill for 5 seconds and if you still can keep your hands on the grill, then the heat is just right for cooking. Do not cook your barbeque if the temperature is too hot because it will easily cook the outer part of the barbeque, leaving the inside uncooked, and this is not good for your stomach.
• Most good quality barbeque grills have thermometers with them. If you have this kind of barbeque, then the ideal temperature for cooking barbeque is 160 degrees centigrade.
• Add more coals after every 30 minutes so that the fire will not die down and the heat will be retained. Do not peek inside the barbeque very often because you are letting the heat escape, which can cause longer cooking time for your barbeque.

Barbeques are for all outdoor occasions from :

  • Parties

Cooking- Choosing the Right Pots and Pans

Filed under: Cooking — tkwriter @ 9:49 am

One of the first steps in getting your kitchen ready to cook is choosing and purchasing the right cookware. One of the most important things you will need to buy are pots and pans. Having the right cookware makes cooking and clean-up a breeze and a lot more fun. Go to metal stamping for more information.

Before you buy
Before you buy, you need to determine what level of cooking you will be doing and most importantly how much you want to spend. Although you do not have to purchase the most expensive brands you can find, however, you do want to make sure you are investing in good quality pots and pans that will last. If not, you will find yourself purchasing them year after year. Plan on buying the best cookware you can afford. If needed, do a little research before buying. Read consumer review and reports.

What to buy
Here is a list of what most cooks consider to be essential pots and pans:

* Sauce Pans are one of the most versatile pots. They are used for making sauces, cooking smaller portions of food, steaming, reheating or just about anything that needs to be heated. Because they are so versatile, you may want to consider purchasing a few different sizes. Some common sizes are 2 are 3 quarts with lids.

* Saute Pans are wide and flat with straight sides to help when sauteing, searing or preparing recipes that have pan sauces and for recipes that require extended cooking times. Good saute pans are made of metals that quickly and efficiently conduct heat. Saute pans should also come with a long handle and a lid. Common sizes are 3 to 5 quarts.

* Skillet or frying pans have moderately high, slightly flared sides. It is considered your all purpose pan for frying. Ideally they should be made out of metals that help conduct heat. Non-stick surfaces are helpful when cooking omelets. Common sizes are 8, 10 and 12-inch sizes. Refer to deep drawing for more information.

* Large Soup or Stock Pots are tall and narrow. They are excellent for cooking or boiling things like soups, stews, stocks, pasta or large quantities of food. Good stockpots should be made out of stainless steel with an aluminum core or anodized aluminum. Depending on how much you will be cooking, you should have a capacity of at least 8 quarts; soup pots may be 4 to 6 quarts.

What to look for
If you are buying a set, make sure it is made of sturdy materials that would not dent and warp. Handles should be comfortable and securely attached.

Pots and pans can be part of a set or bought individually. Buying sets can save a lot of money. If you do buy a set, make sure it fits your individual needs; otherwise it does not make sense to purchase pots and pans you will not use. The idea is to purchase ones that can be multifunctional.

Stainless steel is the most common and versatile material for cookware. Although stainless steel by its self is a poor conductor of heat. Stainless steel works best if it has an aluminum or copper core. It could also have a thick aluminum or copper disk bonded to the bottom of the pan. Adding a core will increase to the price, but will perform better. Anodized aluminum and no stick also make excellent choices.

Look for cookware that offers different shapes and sizes. Be picky about the pots and pans you need. If you want uniformity, buy in a set or collect individual pieces from a specific line. Hope you have found these tips useful to help you choose the right pots and pans. Visit deep drawing for more information.

Everyone Enjoys a Good Barbecue

Filed under: Cooking — tkwriter @ 7:56 pm

barbecues are great fun, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like them. A balmy sun kissed day, the gentle drift of aromatic smoke and a cold beer in your hand.

Who could ask for anything more!

Having said that, there’s a few things you should do to ensure you have a fun time. The last thing you want is the day spoiled because of an injury or some such thing. Keeping to a few simple guidelines will ensure that any excitement is of a positive kind!

Lighting the barbecue always provides a mixture of fear, frustration and excitement. After it’s lit make sure you set aside enough time for the barbecue to reach it’s optimum cooking temperature. Be sure you take that into account.

Of course if you’re using a gas or electric barbecue you can probably avoid too much fuss or problem at this stage – ease of lighting is one of the main reasons people choose these types.

If you are using charcoal never be tempted to use lighter fluid to ease the lighting. It will permeate into the food and make it taste awful. Believe me I’ve done it often enough to know. The only thing I can suggest if you find your better half has already made a replica of Dantes Inferno is to let the coal burn for at least thirty minutes that way you won’t spoil the taste of the food.

To get everyone’s juices flowing I’d suggest adding wood chips to you barbecue. If you’re used to barbecuing and have cooked this way often you probably already knew that. If you haven’t tried it, there’s nothing better than the smell of steak sizzling over wood chips. Using BBQ wood chips will take you to the next level of barbecuing. Whether you’re using an electric, gas or charcoal model the addition of wood chips imparts the true flavour of barbecuing into your food

The secret to using wood chips is not to let them burn too quickly and you can do this by soaking them for about 15 minutes before you use them. They should be moist but not saturated.

You can choose from a multitude of flavours of wood chips for your barbecue. Mesquite, hickory, cabernet and more. I’d suggest that the more delicate the meat the milder the wood chip you use. Cherry fruitwoods go great with veal poultry and pork, Alder Wood is great with seafood. The stronger flavours of maple and hickory are best suited to Lamb and duck and possibly poultry too.

At the end of the day however it’s what you serve your guest that counts. Make sure it’s decent grub and everyone will be satisfied

Relax and have fun at your barbecue. Now where’s that bottle of ice cold beer with my name on it?
