What’s Next For America?

Filed under: Politics — tkwriter @ 1:33 am

It is hard to say how well Barack Obama will do as the president of America. Right now, there is no doubt that the country is facing problems, such as the economy and the war still going on in Iraq. He will officially take over as the president on the 20th January 2008 (George Bush is still running the country for a couple more months), and between now and then, most of his time will be spent educating himself on the issues America faces and putting together his presidential team.

Many say that the main reason Obama was the 2008 election was not so much because of his campaign skills, but because many American’s felt that Sarah Palin was not ready to be vice president if the republican party were to win. It is still not so clear why she was chosen as running mate to the president. In any case, she will probably just go back to being mayor of Alaska. When the next election comes in 2012, it’s possible that she will run again.

Obama’s main point when running for president was that he would reduce taxes for the middle class, and raise taxes for people that make over $250,000 per year. He also plans on ending the war in Iraq, and giving better health benefits to people that can’t afford them. Before he does all this, though, he will need to regularly talk to George Bush so that he is up to date with everything America is facing.

The main thing most American’s are hoping for now is that the economy will return to its usual self. Although gas prices have plummeted to below $2/gallon (much to everyone’s joy), the economy is obviously not doing well now, and many companies are laying off jobs. We can only hope that things will get better in the next few years.
